BCCP Direct Services

The regional staff will determine if a woman is eligible for no-cost breast and cervical cancer screenings and diagnostic services.  If a woman is found to be eligible, staff will schedule services for women at a contracted provider and provide case management to clients with abnormal results. BCCP is committed to serving Ohio women in a convenient, accessible, respectful and culturally competent manner.

Clinical Services offered at no cost to women enrolled in BCCP:

Payable BCCP Services (all services must be approved and scheduled by the regional enrollment agency)

Cervical Cancer Screening & Diagnostic

Age 21 – 29

  • An office visit with a doctor or nurse for Pap test every three (3) years (office visit may include pelvic exam and clinical breast exam - CBE).                
  • Follow-up exams and diagnostic testing for abnormal pap test.

Age 30 and older

  • An office visit with a doctor or nurse for a Pap test every three (3) years or Pap+HPV test every five (5) years (office visit may include pelvic exam and CBE).                
  • Follow-up exams and diagnostic testing for abnormal pap test.

 

Breast Cancer Screening & Diagnostic

Age 21 – 39

  • Screening/diagnostic mammography if a doctor determines a need for screening or diagnostic services based on a clinical exam, family history or other factors (may include office visit for order).                
  • Follow-up office visits/exams and diagnostic testing for abnormal mammogram results.

Age 40 and older

  • Annual screening mammography (may include office visit for order).               
  • Follow-up office visits/exams and diagnostic testing for abnormal mammogram results.

 

Things Ohio BCCP does not pay for:

Under age 40

  • Screening mammograms without physician referral (age 25-39 only).

Any Age

  • Any cancer treatment                
  • Yearly Well Woman Visit                                
  • Any services unless to screen or diagnose breast or cervical cancer                
  • Other test doctor may order such as blood or urine tests.       
  • Exams before signing up for Ohio BCCP.                
  • Inpatient hospital or treatment services.                
  • Medication prescribed at office visits.

Case Management services offered at no cost to women enrolled in BCCP:

Help women to enroll in BCCP.

Schedule medical appointments for BCCP enrollees.

Make sure follow-up services are provided to BCCP enrollees who receive abnormal screening results.

Help BCCP women enroll in treatment services if treatment for breast or cervical cancer is needed.

Help BCCP women get other community services such as transportation, support and language interpretation.

Who provides medical and laboratory (clinical) services for women enrolled in BCCP?

BCCP’s clinical services are provided across the State of Ohio through a network of more than 600 Ohio primary care physicians, nurse practitioners, gynecologists, surgeons, mammography facilities, radiologists, technologists/ technicians and cytologists. 

 

What if I am diagnosed with cancer while enrolled in the Breast and Cervical Cancer Project (BCCP)?

Women who are diagnosed with breast or cervical cancer (or cervical pre-cancerous conditions) through BCCP and require treatment are eligible for a special version of Medicaid called BCCP Medicaid. Women enrolled in BCCP Medicaid receive full Medicaid benefits throughout the duration of their treatment. Regional Enrollment Agency case managers help women enroll in BCCP Medicaid.
