Infant and Fetal Mortality

Ohio is working diligently to reduce its rate of infant mortality - the death of a live born baby before its first birthday - and to reduce its rate of fetal mortality - the death of a fetus before birth.

Ohio Senate Bill 332 requires the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) to provide a quarterly report of infant and fetal mortality, prematurity, and low birthweight. This is provided in the Ohio Quarterly Scorecard for Ohio. Additionally, these and additional indicators are provided in Appendix A as tables for Ohio, each of the OEI counties individually and combined, for all non-OEI counties combined, plus scorecards for combined rural counties. An additional set of these tables for Medicaid-covered infants or mothers is provided in Appendix B, along with a breakdown by the Medicaid plan covering the infant or mother.
