Nurse Aide Training and Competency Evaluation Program (NATCEP) & Train The Trainer (TTT)
Federal and state regulations establish training and testing requirements for all nurse aides who work in Medicare/Medicaid certified long-term care facilities. The Ohio Department of Health's (ODH) Nurse Aide Training and Competency Program (NATCEP) Unit is responsible for ensuring that Nurse Aide, Train-the-Trainer (TTT) and Dining Assistant (DA) programs offered in Ohio meet minimum federal and state requirements.
Each NATCEP and TTT in Ohio receives at least one inspection/survey during a 24-month inspection/survey cycle. During these surveys, all aspects of compliance are evaluated based on Chapter 3701-18 of the Ohio Administrative Code.
NATCEP
Completion of an ODH-licensed NATCEP will provide the training needed to become a State Tested Nursing Assistant (STNA). A NATCEP must be no less than 75 hours in length. Training will consist of at least 59 hours of classroom experience and skills training and at least 16 hours of supervised resident care in a long-term care facility (nursing home only). Upon successful completion of a NATCEP, students will receive a Certificate of Completion and will be eligible to register for the state nurse aide test. Individuals who pass the state nurse aide test will have their names added to the Ohio Nurse Aide Registry.
Train the Trainer
A Train the Trainer (TTT) program must be no less than 28 hours in length, and those who complete the program will receive an official ODH Certificate of Completion. Topics for training include Framework for Training, Training Environment, Course Material Design and Development Process, and familiarization with the Ohio Administrative Code (OAC) rules that pertain to NATCEP and TTT.
Dining Assistant Training
Ohio’s Dining Assistant Program (DA) has been designed to meet the requirements of rule 3701-17-07.2 of the Ohio Administrative Code as well as provide a meaningful, practical skill development opportunity for persons wishing to be a Dining Assistant in Ohio’s long-term care facilities.

D&S Diversified Technologies has been approved through the Department of Veterans Affairs (VA) as an approved testing vendor for the Ohio STNA exam. Reimbursement of fees paid may be available through your GI Bill®, if funds are available. If you are a Veteran or Active Military, you will be provided with a receipt that you must submit with completed form 22-0803-ARE.pdf and mail to the VA for reimbursement.
