Radon Education and Licensing Program
Education
The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) Radon Education and Licensing Program is federally funded, and works in cooperation with the U.S. Environmental Protection Agency (US EPA) and a network of local health departments across Ohio.
Elevated levels of indoor radon are the primary cause of lung cancer among non-smokers. Free radon test kits are available for Ohio homeowners.
For general questions about radon's health effects and to discuss radon testing, please contact education staff at 614-728-0272 or indoor.radon@odh.ohio.gov.
Licensing
This program licenses companies and persons directly involved with the radon testing and mitigation industry. ODH regulates contractors that install radon mitigation systems, mitigation specialists who design and supervise the installation of mitigation systems, radon testers, radon laboratories and the companies that provide required radon training.
Radon professionals who need assistance should contact licensing staff at 614-752-4425 or radon@odh.ohio.gov.
