Project Connect

The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) Family Planning Program, the ODH Sexual Assault and Domestic Violence Prevention Program and the Ohio Domestic Violence Network (ODVN) collaborated on a pilot project addressing sexual and reproductive coercion with at-risk populations in family planning clinics and adolescent health settings. ODVN received a grant from the Futures without Violence organization to identify, assess and implement support to victims of coercion and violence.

Clinic staff at pilot sites were trained on improving screening techniques of all patients for sexual and reproductive coercion and on making referrals for identified victims to resources in their community. The pilot project demonstrated the benefits of partnerships between local family planning clinics and corresponding local domestic violence and sexual violence prevention agencies. The lessons learned from Project Connect also assisted ODH in the development of Ohio's Human Trafficking Protocol for nurses and clinicians.
