Ohio Department of Health to open East Palestine Health Assessment Clinic
On Tuesday, Feb. 21, the Ohio Department of Health, in partnership with the Columbiana County Health Department and with support from the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services, opened a Health Assessment Clinic for East Palestine area residents who have medical questions or concerns related to the recent train derailment.
The clinic is on a walk-in basis. Call 330-424-0272 for information.
The clinic will be held at the First Church of Christ, located at 20 W. Martin St. in East Palestine.
All visitors to the free clinic will have their vital signs taken by a registered nurse and be seen by a physician, who will conduct a medical examination. In addition to the medical exams, mental health specialists and a toxicologist are also available for consultation.
The clinic is part of an extensive effort by Ohio Governor Mike DeWine and several state agencies to help East Palestine recover from the derailment.
“Last week, I was in East Palestine and listened as many area residents expressed their concerns and fears,” ODH Director Bruce Vanderhoff, MD, MBA, said. “I heard you, the state heard you, and now the Ohio Department of Health and our partner agencies are providing this clinic, where people can come and discuss these vital issues with medical providers.”
Anyone with medical concerns or questions are encouraged to take advantage of the clinic and mobile unit.
The clinic will serve as an opportunity for area residents to discuss concerns and receive a health assessment. The last resident will be seen 1 hour prior to closing. Referrals will be made if needed.
