Infectious Disease Programs

Hepatitis Surveillance
The Hepatitis Surveillance Program is responsible for the ongoing and systematic collection, analysis, interpretation and dissemination of population-based information about persons diagnosed with non-perinatal hepatitis B virus (HBV), hepatitis C virus (HCV) and hepatitis D virus (HDV) in Ohio.

HIV/AIDS Surveillance
The HIV/AIDS Surveillance Program is responsible for the on-going and systematic collection, analysis, interpretation, and dissemination of population-based information about persons diagnosed and living with HIV and/or AIDS in Ohio.

Outbreak Response & Bioterrorism Investigation Team (ORBIT)
The Outbreak Response and Bioterrorism Investigation Team (ORBIT) is responsible for disease surveillance on enteric and respiratory diseases, as well as investigations of food-borne, waterborne, community and institutional disease outbreaks. ORBIT also responses to bioterrorism incidents in Ohio.

Sexually Transmitted Disease Surveillance
The Sexually Transmitted Disease (STD) Surveillance Program tracks chancroid, gonorrhea, chlamydia and syphilis in Ohio. It provides information used in preventing the spread of these sexually transmitted diseases (STDs).

Healthcare-Associated Infections
Healthcare-Associated Infections are part of the Tuberculosis and Healthcare-Associated Infections program (TB/HAI) at the Ohio Department of Health. The program tracks and prevents human infections caused by tuberculosis and those acquired in healthcare settings.

Tuberculosis is part of the Tuberculosis and Healthcare-Associated Infections program (TB/HAI) at the Ohio Department of Health. The program tracks and prevents human infections caused by tuberculosis and those acquired in healthcare settings.

Zoonotic Disease Program
The mission of the Zoonotic Disease Program (ZDP) is to prevent and control diseases transmissible from animals (including mosquitoes and other vectors) to humans.

Infectious Disease Control Manual
Programs that focus on infectious diseases collaborate on the Infectious Disease Control Manual (IDCM). The IDCM is a reference for local health departments, hospitals, laboratories and physicians in providing information about infectious diseases from a public health perspective, including prevention, control and reporting of suspected and diagnosed cases. Ohio's list of reportable infectious diseases and reporting requirements, including timelines for reporting and surveillance case definitions, are included in the Ohio Department of Health's IDCM.
