Is it Safe to drink alcohol while pregnant?
No FASD is the only preventable birth defect.

Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders (FASD) refers to the range of effects that can occur in an individual who was exposed to alcohol during pregnancy. Drinking alcohol during pregnancy can cause:

Heart problems
Kidney problems
Developmental disabilities
Behavior problems
Learning problems
Low birthweight

The good news is that FASD is completely preventable. If a woman does not drink alcohol while she is pregnant, her child cannot get FASD.

About the State of Ohio FASD State Steering Committee

Ohio’s Statewide FASD Steering Committee is an alliance of several state agencies, colleges and universities, health and human services providers and parents. The Committee’s mission is to establish efficiency in state systems resource allocation and coordination of services and resources to address FASD.

Mission Statement:
To increase awareness of the impact of alcohol-exposed pregnancies, collaborate with agencies to establish resources, coordinate interventions and diagnostic services for families affected by Fetal Alcohol Spectrum Disorders.
