Outpatient Physical and Speech Therapy
A rehabilitation agency provides an integrated, multidisciplinary program designed to upgrade the physical functions of handicapped, disabled individuals by bringing together, as a team, specialized rehabilitation personnel. A rehabilitation agency must provide physical therapy or speech pathology services and a rehabilitation program that includes social or vocational adjustment services.

OPT/SP providers may be rehabilitation agencies, clinics, or public health agencies. A rehabilitation agency provides an integrated, multidisciplinary program designed to upgrade the physical functions of handicapped, disabled individuals by bringing together, as a team, specialized rehabilitation personnel. A rehabilitation agency must provide physical therapy or speech pathology services and a rehabilitation program that includes social or vocational adjustment services. A clinic provides for physicians’ participation to provide medical services. The public health agency is an official agency of a state or local government, the primary function of which is to maintain the health of the population served by providing environmental health services, preventive medical services, or therapeutic services. An OPT/SP may provide services on its own premises, or on the premises of another provider such as a hospital or nursing facility. OPT/SPs are not licensed in Ohio. Federal standards for Medicare certification are found at 42 CFR Part 485, Subpart H. OPT/SPs are not currently subject to an annual survey visit, but are surveyed consistent with a percentage of total state universe as set by the Medicare budget each Federal Fiscal Year.

Outpatient Physical Therapy facilities may be deemed to meet the federal Medicare program certification requirements through accreditation by the American Association of Ambulatory Surgery Facilities (AAAASF).

Health Care Provider and Services: To obtain real-time information, generate, print and download reports regarding health care providers that are licensed and/or Medicare/Medicaid certified by the Ohio Department of Health.
