Quitting smoking improves your health even if you gain weight, according to a new study published in the New England Journal of Medicine. 

Although people who quit smoking and gained a lot of weight faced a higher short-term risk of diabetes, they also faced a 50% drop in the chance of an early death and a 67% drop in the risk of death from heart attack.
