Various additional state and federal programs administered outside of the Ohio Lake Erie Commission provide funding opportunities towards the protection and restoration of Lake Erie. 

State of Ohio - Funding programs that can enhance, protect and restore Lake Erie:

  • Home Sewage Treatment Systems: Promoting water quality benefits by providing financing through local health departments for the upgrade and repair of home sewage treatment systems (aka "septic tanks") through Ohio EPA Division of Financial Assistance.
  • Ohio Environmental Education Fund: Enhancing Ohio citizens' awareness and understanding of environmental issues through grant-funded educational projects via Ohio EPA.
  • H2Ohio - Funding for local water resource projects through Ohio EPA, Ohio DNR, and Ohio Department of Agriculture
  • Clean Ohio Fund - Ohio Public Works Commission grants to protect conservation properties in perpetuity.
  • Ohio Coastal Management Program - Coastal Management Assistance Grants through Ohio DNR
  • Ohio Brownfield Fund - Provides grants to assist in the remediation of hazardous substances or petroleum at an industrial, commercial, or institutional property via the Ohio Department of Development.
  • Redevelopment Assistance through the Ohio Department of Development
  • Ohio Maritime Assistance Program - Ohio Department of Transportation
  • Ohio Department of Higher Education HABRI - Research to understand and mitigate Harmful Algae Blooms at Ohio Sea Grant
