Influenza Vaccine Availability and Ordering for the 2025-26 Respiratory Season for VFC Providers
The Ohio Department of Health (ODH) Immunization Program expects to provide influenza (flu) vaccine to VFC providers comparable to the previous season.
The 2025-2026 influenza vaccines are trivalent. The United States Food and Drug Administration’s (FDA) Vaccines and Related Biological Products Advisory Committee reviewed and recommended approval of this year’s vaccines. The official recommendations on use of the 2025-2026 vaccines from the Centers for Disease Control and Prevention (CDC) have not yet been posted but are expected in the near future.
Flu vaccine products expected to be available for VFC providers for the 2025-26 season are:
- Single dose pre-filled syringes, 0.5 mL Fluzone, preservative-free Trivalent Inactivated Vaccine (TIV) (6 months+) NDC 49281-0425-50
- Single dose pre-filled syringes, 0.5 mL FluLaval, preservative-free Trivalent Inactivated Vaccine (TIV) (6 months+) NDC 19515-0904-52
- Single dose pre-filled syringes, 0.5 mL Flucelvax, preservative-free Trivalent Inactivated Vaccine (TIV) (6 months+) NDC 70461-0655-03
- Single dose Intranasal spray, 0.2 mL FluMist, Live Trivalent (2-18 years) NDC 66019-0112-10
VFC providers must order the vaccine online through the ImpactSIIS Vaccine Ordering Management System (VOMS). Please look for a link under Orders & Returns called Prebooking Request and refer to the attached instructions for assistance. The link will be available from Aug. 1 through Aug. 31, 2025. Each approved VFC provider location should place a single order that includes adequate supply for the entire 2025-26 season.
VFC flu vaccine can be administered to a child through 18 years of age if the child meets at least one of the following criteria:
- Child is Medicaid eligible.
- Child is uninsured.
- Child is American Indian or Alaska Native.
- Child is Underinsured: An underinsured child is eligible to receive VFC vaccine only through a federally qualified health center (FQHC), rural health clinic (RHC), or a public health department that receives deputized authority from a FQHC or RHC.
For the purposes of the VFC Program, a child now meets VFC eligibility as underinsured if the child has health insurance that does not provide first-dollar coverage for any vaccine recommended by the Advisory Committee on Immunization Practices (ACIP).
Please review the following guidance on flu vaccine prioritization and need estimation instructions prior to completing and submitting your flu vaccine order.
Vaccine Supply Estimation Guidance
Providers are asked to review actual flu vaccine usage for the past three seasons (2022-23, 2023-24, 2024-2025), rather than the amount ordered. Please consider any unused doses when placing your order.
Patient Specific Reporting of Flu Doses Administered
ODH recommends patient-specific reporting of federally and privately purchased flu vaccine doses into ImpactSIIS, the statewide immunization registry. This can occur either through direct entry or through an existing upload protocol using an electronic medical record system.
VFC Flu Vaccine Shipments
Providers are expected to receive their supplies of VFC flu vaccine in multiple shipments. Please ensure that all staff responsible for vaccine receipt, storage, and handling are aware that the vaccine is to be placed in refrigeration between 36°F (2°C) and 46°F (8°C) upon receipt.
Scheduling Flu Clinics and Vaccine Promotion
Each flu season, the production and shipments of flu vaccine are not entirely predictable. ODH cautions providers against scheduling immunization clinics early in the flu vaccination season, as ODH is not able to guarantee flu vaccine delivery dates.
We appreciate your partnership to protect children from the flu virus. If you have any questions about VFC flu vaccine and ordering, please contact the ODH Immunization Program at (800) 282-0546 or (614) 466-4643.
