Healthcare Provider Volunteer Program and Registration of Nonprofit Shelters
Ohio Revised Code Sections 3701.071 and 2305.234 provide for immunity from civil liability for healthcare providers and facilities providing care to the indigent. Nonprofit shelters or healthcare facilities must register with the Ohio Department of Health (ODH) by Jan. 1 of each year. In order to register, a nonprofit shelter or healthcare facility must complete a registration form. The completed form can be emailed to DNR@odh.ohio.gov. Upon receipt of these registration materials, ODH sends the nonprofit shelter or healthcare facility an acknowledgement letter with assigned registration number.
A nonprofit shelter or health care facility operating in Ohio must keep records of all patients who receive medical, dental or other health-related diagnoses, care or treatment at the shelter or facility.
