Introducing the New “Life on Lake Erie” Specialty License Plate! 
The Ohio Lake Erie Commission is excited to debut its 4th Specialty License Plate — the “Life on Lake Erie” design, crafted to raise awareness and funds for the protection and restoration of this vital water source.

Why Does Your Purchase Matter? 
Sales from the license plate directly fund vital research and conservation efforts across the Lake Erie watershed through the Lake Erie Protection Fund (LEPF). With every purchase of a specialty license plate, $15 goes directly to the Lake Erie Protection Fund (LEPF), which has funded over $12 million in research and conservation projects. These projects focus on improving water quality, restoring shorelines, preserving wildlife, and supporting public education about Lake Erie. Your plate helps fund crucial annual grant projects that make a real impact across the watershed. 

  • For each plate sold, $15 goes to the Lake Erie Protection Fund, and $10 goes toward the annual BMV fee.

  • You can also make additional donations of up to $50 each year through the BMV  

  • Donate any amount via PayPal to further support Lake Erie conservation efforts. 

What’s on the Plate? 
The new license plate is a nod to the longstanding Life on Lake Erie Photo Contest.  With scenes of kayakers, sailboats, and local wildlife, the design celebrates Lake Erie’s natural beauty, recreational opportunities, and its maritime heritage — all while reminding us of the importance of protecting this precious resource.

How to Get Your Plate?
The Life on Lake Erie license plate is available for purchase by Ohio residents through the Bureau of Motor Vehicles (BMV). You can order your plate online at Ohio BMV-Online Services or visit your local BMV location. 

  • Select OPlates
  • You'll need the last four digits of your social security number and license plate number.
  • You can also make additional donations of up to $50 each year through the BMV or directly through OLEC's  PayPal to further support Lake Erie conservation efforts.
