Ohio Lake Erie Commission Awards $144,970 to Support
Lake Erie Protection and Restoration Efforts
CLEVELAND, OH — The Ohio Lake Erie Commission (OLEC) has awarded $144,970 to three recipients of the 2025 Lake Erie Protection Fund grants. The recipients’ projects in the Lake Erie watershed will support the priorities in the Lake Erie Protection and Restoration Plan.
The annual funding is made possible solely through the sales of the Commission’s state license plate program and individual donations to the Lake Erie Protection Fund. Every plate purchased or dollar donation supports research, projects, and restoration efforts across the Lake Erie region.
The 2025 Lake Erie Protection Fund Grant recipients are:
- Cleveland Metroparks – Nature-Based Shoreline Planning Study, $45,000
- Chagrin River Watershed Partners – Reducing Nutrients to Ohio’s Central Lake Erie Basin, $49,970
- East Cleveland – Caledonia Ravine Restoration Planning & Design, $50,000
Since its creation in 1993, the Lake Erie Protection Fund has awarded hundreds of grants for projects that address key challenges facing the lake — from restoring habitats to developing plans and ongoing research.
